Community ProgramsBeing a good neighbor is part of our mission at American Water. We are dedicated to Hawaii and do make sure we show it. We give back where we can and we support community education. We’ve participated in a number of projects and events that support those missions. In Hawaii, we support the Friends of Hanauma Bay, a program designed to protect a critical watershed. This partnership works to promote education and responsible use of this treasured area. And we take care of the environment because it means so much to what we do. You’ll find our employees and their families participating in clean-up projects along our shoreline and roadsides. At American Water, being a good neighbor and helping out whenever we can is critical to what we do. We are your local water company, but we are also your partner in environmental stewardship, educational programs, and community involvement. We are dedicated to our communities and demonstrate that commitment every day with programs that support the communities we serve. Across the country we work closely with our communities to make sure we are giving back. We do this in a number of ways. We participate with elementary, middle and high schools to teach students - and teachers - about wise water use and protection of the environment. We work with organizations such as the United Way and local Chambers of Commerce to support local environmental, cultural and educational programs. And, we work closely with our communities to help protect, clean up and restore drinking water supplies and watershed areas. From river clean-ups, to presenting the water treatment process at local schools, to setting up water arches at charity runs, every day American Water employees are active and engaged in the communities where we live and work. Below are a few examples of programs we have participated in.
