Turning Service On/Off

Turning the Water On
One call is all it takes to turn on water service if your home or business is already connected to our system. Simply contact our Customer Service Center at 1.800.492.8373. Our representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can take a service application by phone from the person responsible for paying the bill. Or, simply fill out the below form to start the process.

New Residence:
If you are moving into a new home or non-residential building, make sure that water is available at your address. Then your can call our Customer Service Center to schedule an appointment to install your water meter and turn on the water.

Existing Residence:
If you move to a residence where water service is already available, call our Customer Service Center and we will make a service call to read the meter and start your billing with an actual meter reading. If your water meter is located inside your home, it will be necessary for a representative to enter your home to read the meter.
Please call us at least 24 hours before you want your water service started.
An adult should be present when we turn on your water service, to prevent any overflow in case a faucet or other water device has been accidentally left on inside. An adult will also need to be present if your water service is already on, but we need to take a first reading from a meter located in the basement.

Deposits:
Most of our customers are not required to make a security deposit for new water service. There are exceptions. If you owe money to Indiana American Water for prior service, or if you have an unsatisfactory payment record within the past two years, you may be required to make a security deposit.
Any deposit will not exceed 1/6 of your estimated annual billing. If the deposit is more than $70, you may pay it in equal installments over an eight-week period. Deposits will be refunded when a satisfactory payment record is maintained for one year.

Turning Your Water Off
Please notify us at least three working days before you want your water service disconnected. This advance notice allows us time to take a final meter reading and ensure that you are only charged for the water you use. If we have not disconnected service within three working days of your requested date, you will not be charged for any water used beyond that three-working-day period.
